Today, University Electric still remains a family business, employing over 30 people.
In the year 1987, two skilled individuals, Edward Slattery and CJ James Beil, came together to merge their extensive electrical knowledge and expertise, laying the foundation for what would become University Electric Inc. Their partnership was built on a shared vision of excellence in the electrical industry. After the untimely passing of Ed in 2006, CJ took the reins of the company, demonstrating remarkable resilience and commitment. Under his leadership, the business not only survived but thrived, as he brought his sons into the office to actively participate in its growth and success.
As the years went by, CJ eventually decided to retire, fully confident in the capabilities of his family. He entrusted the future of the company to his sons, daughter, and eldest grandson, ensuring that his legacy would continue through the next generation. In a significant transition, Rosemarie, another key figure in the company, retired in 2022. This pivotal moment left Tom Beil and Eric Jay to take over the reins of the business, continuing the family tradition of excellence. Notably, Eric is Jim’s eldest grandson and represents the third generation of family leadership within University Electric Inc., carrying forward the values and dedication instilled by Ed and CJ.

University Electric has been involved in many notable projects throughout the community. Some include:

- Diocese of Youngstown (Numerous projects- ranging from new churches, renovations and service work)

- Stambaugh Auditorium- Grand staircase renovations, Ballroom Renovations
